Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark – meh

I wasn’t aware that this movie was out until my friend pulled our entire group to the theater. She wanted to see it because it was based upon books we read as kids, titled “Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark.”

If you’re in your 30’s on up, you probably recognize these books. They were literally a collection of scary stories to tell in the dark during sleepovers or at camps. And man, were they scary. Especially you got someone who was a great reader.

Was the movie good as the books?

Well, unfortunately – no.

But what movie is good as the books, right?

The film makes an attempt to weave some of the most popular stories from the book into a new storyline that is not based upon the books. The idea is pretty cool and the movie is entertaining, but overall, it misses the satisfaction mark.

Personally, I believe the casting was just a bit off and the horror just wasn’t scary enough. They really could have pushed the envelope with some of the creepiness, but they didn’t.

I don’t think the movie is safe for your children to see and not scary enough for adults.

This movie is just a smidge below average so I’ll have to give it a low grade.

I go by either "Steven" or "Steve" it really doesn't matter. I'm not a professional screenwriter anymore, so there's no need to suck up to me and send me your latest script. I have zero ambition to work in the entertainment industry. I'm now just a regular guy who knows a bit about storytelling, wants to share that knowledge to inspire new writers, and to share my work with everyone!
