Type Seven “Enthusiast”

Type Seven Enthusiast

WHAT’S UNDER THE HOOD?

The engine, the brand, the performance of their car, for the most part, is unimportant to a Type Seven Enthusiast.  As long as it can get them from point A to point B, they are good to go.

It’s not as if Enthusiast don’t care for fancy or fast cars, it’s just not high on their priority list.  They would rather have a Volkswagon van that’s converted for camping, seeing the world, than an exotic car to show off to friends.

KEY INGREDIENTS OF A TYPE SEVEN “ENTHUSIAST”

  • They are fun to be around.  They love to have a good time – anytime, any day.
  • Can be very creative, but their identity is not tied to their art.  Their art is more of an expression of their adventures.
  • Enthusiasts have a problem with settling down and focusing.
  • They love to compulsively travel.
  • These personalities can have a lot of hobbies
    • they are usually skilled at these hobbies as well.  They are not the “Jack of all trades, master of none.”
  • Don’t tend to be well versed in world or local affairs because they don’t truly care.  The mostly care about their world.
  • Can often seem very selfish because they only care about their personal adventures.
  • Often runs away conflict
  • Can be fairly impulsive
  • They are great at smiling

WHAT’S THEIR AGENDA?

To experience the world, life, and all of its mysteries.

THEIR IMMEDIATE DEFENSE

When a Type Seven is confronted with any type of conflict, their immediate reaction is not to argue, not to punch back, but to run away.

WHAT IS THEIR GREATEST FEAR?

That they are missing out on something great, a new experience or adventure.

WHO ARE THE TYPE SEVENS IN THE REAL WORLD?

Well, this is a real easy answer.

These are your adrenaline junkies and your bucket-list accomplishing travelers.

TOM CRUISE IS PROBABLY A TYPE SEVEN

Here is a man who is an acrobatic pilot planes and helicopters,  a skydiver, a fencer, a rock climber, dancer, producer, director, writer, stuntman, and of course – actor.  He does all of his own stunts, even if that means learning to fly a F-18 for Top Gun or pull off a barrel roll in a helicopter for Mission Impossible.  I’m probably missing a wealth of other recreations that Tom Cruise is great at.

If you’re fan of the Bachelor series….

DEAN FROM THE BACHELOR IS A TYPICAL SEVEN

Here is a guy who lived out of his van and traveled America.  He doesn’t like the title of “husband” because he fears being tied down.

NEIL ARMSTRONG – THE FIRST MAN ON THE MOON

He got his private pilots license before he could drive, at sixteen years old.  He built model airplanes, formed a jazz band in high school, was an Eagle Scout, and loved to fly fish.   He always pushed the envelope of flight, never opting to just fly normally.  Before he went to space, he was a test pilot and loved every second of it, even though it could have killed him.  Armstrong never sought the limelight like a Type Three would.  By the way, if you watch the videp, you will notice that Armstrong is always smiling.  That’s something all Sevens have in common.  They have a great smile, always laughing.

WHAT IS THEIR SPIRIT ANIMAL?

The butterfly.  They fly from flower to flower, with the wind, with no worry in the world.

FICTIONAL CHARACTERS

You won’t find Type Sevens in movies because they’re not dark enough.  They are not depressed, on a journey to find themselves, or trying to find their place in the world – that’s a four.

But here are a few interesting sevens that I found.

BOHDI, FROM POINT BLANK

Bohdi, played by Patrick Swayze is a skydiver and a surfer who chased the next adrenaline rush, at all cost.  In the end he died surfing a once-in-a-lifetime wave living up to his philosophy “gotta be willing to pay the ultimate price.”

THE JOKER KILLS – FOR FUN

The Joker, well – the old Joker, is a Type Seven who enjoys to cause mayhem and murder for a good laugh.  Not for money, but for a good laugh.  I remember a scene the video game, Arkham, when The Joker jumped off a building to see if Batman would save him.   Batman did jump to his rescue.  During the freefall, the Joker tried to shoot himself in the head, which Batman prevented.   Joker did this all for the laugh, he was not motivated by money or had any desire to win.

The most recent Joker, the one portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is a type Four and not a seven.

SONIC CAN’T STAY STILL, WANTS TO EXPERIENCE EVERYTHING

I’m not sure if this Sonic was canon to the video grames, but he’s a Type Seven who pretty much was forced to experience the world because he chose to keep himself isolated.

THEIR FUNCTION IN LIFE

Type Sevens are the explorers of this world.  While scientists (type fives) may hypothesize how we can venture to mars, and how Presidents Trump (a type one) can tell Americans why we must do it, it would most likely be the Type Seven Enthusiast who would be willing to strap themselves to a rocket, to take the first step on mars.

THE UNHEALTHY TYPE SEVEN

TRIGGERS OF THE TYPE SEVEN

Type Ones are about rules, laws, and living in a box, which is the direct opposite of a Type Seven personality.   Restrictions to a Type seven, is equivalent to a death sentence.  The worst thing you can do to an enthusiasts is to put them in a box.

But as with all personalities, you do become what you fear.   And Type Sevens ironically, can become judgemental like a Type One, and eliminate anyone who dares to limit or challenge their freedom.

Marriage can literally be a ball and chain to a Type Seven, and they could be adamantly against settling down for the rest of their life, not open to idea to marriage, but ironically open to the idea of traveling the open road.

THEY CAN BE SCATTERED

Moving forward in life does require settling down, creating a home base, and growing.  While that may sound simple to the rest of us, it’s a stretch the Type Seven.  Sevens are more comfortable moving sideways in their life, rather than forward.   Saving for retirement?  Not for a seven.  They’ll save for the next vacation or surfboard.

THEY TEND TO RUNAWAY FROM CONFLICT

Type Sevens can seem like a counterphobic six, who destroys what they fear.  But instead of destroying, they simply pack up and leave.  They will choose to run away from their problems, suddenly quit jobs, abruptly leave relationships.   They are not out to destroy, they are simply a free spirit and want to experience something better.

TEND NOT TO CARE ABOUT NEWS OR INVESTING

As we get older, we usually start to care more about current events, politics, and investing.  Most sevens could care less.  This is not necessarily a bad trait, but it does contribute to the reason why many sevens have a hard time settling down.

THE HEALTHY TYPE SEVEN

For a Type Seven to grow, they must embrace their Eight Wing and focus.  They must make the hard decisions and apply the plethora of skills they have acquired, to grow.

Don’t think for a second that Type Sevens are not intellectual, they are in fact very smart and calculating.  Most of their hobbies include a high level of knowledge to enjoy.  In fact, once they focus themselves, they can actually look like a Type Five Intellect – brainy, and a collector of knowledge.

Growth for a Type Seven can be considered quite simple.  All they need to do is to be, what the rest of us consider – responsible.

ARTISTIC, EARTHY, AND COOL

Sevens can be very artistic, but they are not defined by their creations.  They simply know how to create because they’ve experienced so much.  Tattoos may explain their adventures rather than to define their identity.

They are very much in tune with the environment.

And they are very laid back.  Sevens don’t hold strong opinions on politics or current events.   They just want to have fun.

HEALTHY CHARACTERISTICS

A healthy Enthusiast will have a great balance of adventure and responsibility.   That’s really it.   They are simple personalities!

Overall, the Type Seven is probably one of the funnest of all personalities to be around.   Their the best person to take on vacation, to share a laugh with, to just enjoy life with.

MISCHARACTERIZATIONS

Type Sevens are so unique, for the most part, it would be very difficult to mischaracterize them.  But remember, just because someone is fun, and has a lot of adventures or a lot of hobbies, doesn’t mean they are a Type Seven.  Someone may look like a Type Seven but are not driven by adventures.  They are not trying to escape or have a fear of being held down.

WORKING WITH A TYPE SEVEN

Sevens work well in front of the camera.   Their high energy works well in the entertainment industry.   Sevens love jobs where adventure and risk is part of the assignment.   They are willing to explore, willing to push the envelope.  Money doesn’t motivate them as much as the adventure of that project may give them.

Sevens tend to work best in contract positions rather than fulltime careers.  They need their freedom.

Sevens, do not work well behind a boring desk job.

Next personalty up, one of my favorites, The Type Eight “Challenger.”

Steve Young

Steve Young

I go by either "Steven" or "Steve" it really doesn't matter. I'm not a professional screenwriter anymore, so there's no need to suck up to me and send me your latest script. I have zero ambition to work in the entertainment industry. I'm now just a regular guy who knows a bit about storytelling, wants to share that knowledge to inspire new writers, and to share my work with everyone!
