I had a lot of fun watching Hobbs and Shaw. This is not a movie that you should watch to finding meaning to your life. But then again, if you’re trying to find meaning to your life in movies you really should see a head doctor.
Like all Fast and Furious movies, Hobbs and Shaw feels like a video game with its over-the-top CGI antics and acting. Whether or not that’s a good or bad thing is very subjective. Personally, I thought it was fun.
What carries this movie from start to finish was the chemistry between Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. Their characters have almost exact personalities, self-centered, ego-driven, my way or the highway “types,” that need to find a way to work together by the end.
The real joy of watching this movie, was strangely, the occasional heckling by our local Samoan community in the back row of the theater. Usually, I hate talkers. Who doesn’t, right? But in this case, when The Rock paid a trip back to Samoa, the local Samoans had to chime in with their “Chee-hos!”
I would recommend watching this movie. Just sit back and have fun. Don’t over-analyze, don’t nitpick.
Don’t be one of those dudes who says, “That can’t happen in real life.”
“Well, duh…”
And you’re not a genius for pointing that out.
It’s not a bad movie at all. It’s not super great, or an excellent example of storytelling. But, it’s good enough for me to say “it’s worth $15.”
