NETFLIX

NETFLIX’S ULTRAMAN IS AWESOME

I watched Ultraman growing up as a kid, back in the 80s, but I was a bit too young to appreciate it for all its glory. The original Ultraman was your retro–hybrid of Iron Man and Ant-Man, – who fought Godzilla like alien creatures. The version I grew up with would be considered cheesy by today’s computer graphic standards. There was no cool special effects back then, just dudes in costumes fighting each other on miniaturized cities. It was a great story to watch, and legendary, to be quite honest. And if you still go to comic-cons these days, Ultraman always gets mad respect.

The version that I watched back in the 80’s, was filmed in the late 60’s. That’s how historic this character is. This pre-dates Iron Man (who only became popular in 1977 after Bob Layton rewrote the character) if you’re curious. In the 1980’s, Ultraman became the 3rd top-selling licensed character in the world.

The new Ultraman is 100% computerized anime. The story is amped up, it’s a lot gorier than the original, and the action is a lot better! Even more awesome, the producers of 2019 Ultraman didn’t reboot the storyline. It picked in 2019, in modern day times. I love that.

That’s all I to disclose about this show. No summary, no character or story arc breakdown from me right now. Just enjoy it.

Parents who loved the old Ultraman will enjoy sharing this series with their kids. This is truly a father-son series. Great job Netflix.

The series is spoken in Japanese, but there is a very good English Audio option to choose from, and that’s what I do for this series. I tried to keep the subtitles on, but there’s just too much going on to read and watch at the same time.

GRADE: A+

I go by either "Steven" or "Steve" it really doesn't matter. I'm not a professional screenwriter anymore, so there's no need to suck up to me and send me your latest script. I have zero ambition to work in the entertainment industry. I'm now just a regular guy who knows a bit about storytelling, wants to share that knowledge to inspire new writers, and to share my work with everyone!
