2020 GRADE B-C MOVIES

Messiah: Not Bad

I started watching this movie because I wanted to see what the gay Jesus on Netflix was all about. Well, stupid me – I got the wrong shotw. But, lucky me – it was pretty good.

Messiah makes a very good attempt to answer the question, “What if Jesus returned in 2020?” It then throws in a twist that challenges the audience with the question, “Is this Messiah, a fraud?”

The series is pretty good. It does get a little repetitious after awhile with Messiah 2.0 answering 70% of any question – with a question.

When a follower says, “Are you, Jesus?”

Messiah 2.0 responds “What do you want me to be?”

That goes question answering banter goes on for a while, but that’s what the director does, and overplays it like a bad habit.

If you watch one episode, you’ll pretty much be hooked, not because the series is outstanding, but because the show ends on a turning point or a question, and you need to find out what’s next.

Messiah 2.0 does look like Jesus. That’s some pretty good casting.

If you’re a Christian, I’m not sure if you’ll be offended. I’m a Christian, it didn’t offend me. With that being said, this Messiah 2.0 is not canon with the Bible. Netflix Jesus is much more peaceful, reclusive, and ambiguous. The Jesus Bible is extroverted, having dinner with everyone, engaging with his followers, and brutally honest with everyone. He also had a full range of emotions, including anger.

Easy questions that should have been answered in this show, such as, “Why is Messiah 2.0 here?” are not answered. I guess that’s for Season 2?

I would say this series is a solid B. It kept me curious, not necessarily entertained.

UPDATE: THIS SERIES HAS BEEN CANCELLED! THAT’S SAD.
